Composition successfully delivered the 16th Congress of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB). Originally scheduled to be held 22 to 25 November 2021 in Ōtautahi Christchurch, the end result was a spectacular virtual conference, showcasing the diversity and excellence of the molecular life sciences in New Zealand and beyond.

With the uncertainty of COVID-19 and Auckland remaining in lock down, the decision was made to convert what was originally an in person conference that had already been postponed in 2020 to a fully virtual conference within four weeks.

This will be the fifth time we have managed this large-scale conference. The 2018 conference was held at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua, with over 800 delegates, 50 exhibition spaces, 41 concurrent sessions (with a call for abstracts process), poster presentations, four workshops, four panel discussions (with up to six presenters per panel), Annual General Meeting and a number of international keynote and invited speakers.
