Te Pae Christchurch convention Centre - Site Inspection
With many conferences it is really important to do a venue site inspection (or familiarisation) to establish key elements of the spaces.
But, what if your venue isn’t built yet? We have had this happen a couple of times. It takes a leap of faith (as well as considered research).
We have had the opportunity to have not one, but two hard-hat site inspections of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre this year! Seeing the progress over the last nine months, between the two visits was exciting. This latest visit was with our organising committee, and watching their reactions to the spaces was lovely to see.
Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is a unique building, set in the heart of Christchurch CBD, taking two blocks and overlooking the Avon River, Victoria Park and Cathedral Square. As well as close walking distance to accommodation options, cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.
This purpose-built venue will house over 24 meetings rooms, an auditorium for 1,400 delegates (which is divisible into two x 700 seat auditoriums), large exhibition and expo spaces, all of which is highly flexible and adaptable. There are too many architectural elements to name, but the use of natural light in the foyer and reception spaces, façade tiles, and floor to ceiling windows reflect the fluidity and curves of Canterbury’s braided rivers is particularly extraordinary for a convention centre.
But a building is just a building; the people make the building come alive. As much as it is super exciting to see the construction, getting to know the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre team their culture and ethos. The way they wish to showcase Ōtautahi Christchurch and Aotearoa New Zealand is special for us and the business events industry as a whole.
