Held at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua, with over 600 delegates, 50 exhibition spaces, 41 concurrent sessions, four workshops, four panel discussions, annual general meeting and a number of keynote and invited speakers.

This is the fourth time Composition has successfully managed this large-scale conference. (the 2020 Conference was postponed)

The structure of the conference was modified for the first time in over a decade, to accommodate a more condensed programme, and allowing delegates to get the full conference experience, but less time from work and home. The theme on this year’s conference was based on women’s value in society, the work of mothers and midwives along with gender equality.

In previous years’ NZCOM conference, following the Powhiri, we have had the Minister of Health speak, then mix it up a little with a range of entertainment including sand artist, violinist, Korean and Pasifika dance groups, choir, opera singer and a hip-hop dance crew, we organised a visit to Tapu Te Ranga Marae. It gave delegates an opportunity to look at childbirth from a different perspective as they wandered past the beautiful fountains in the whenua garden, dedicated to the Atua Waahine (goddesses) who preside over childbirth.

We had an amazing performance from Rotorua girls’ and Boys’ High School Kapa Haka group Raukura, who won the National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka competition kicked off the first conference morning.

Incorporated into the conference were branded KeepCups, offered in various sizes to delegates.

The conference dinner was held at Rotorua Skyline, which a gondola ride was required up to the Stratosfare Restaurant, for the chance to eat, dance and admire the views from high in the sky.

For a bit of fun, we had a frame for delegates to take photos within and upload to social media.
